Parade Route for National Armed Forces Day in Salisbury30.05.2019
National Armed Forces Day is being hosted in Salisbury this June. The parade route has been announced.
The National Armed Forces Day celebrations will take place across 3 days; Friday 28, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June 2019.
Most of the celebrations will be hosted at Hudson's Field, but a major part of the national celebrations will be a military parade through the city centre on the morning of Saturday 29 June, which is National Armed Forces Day.
Regular and reserve personnel, veterans, cadets and blue light services will take part in the parade on the morning of Saturday 29 June through the city’s streets as well as military horses, working dogs and vehicles.
The parade will be led by the mounted dutymen from the Household Mounted Division and will finish with the British Army units which hold the Freedom of Salisbury.
HRH The Princess Royal will attend the parade, and the world famous Royal Air Force Red Arrows will make a spectacular moment when they fly overhead.
Due to the size of the parade, involving military personnel and vehicles, roads in Salisbury city centre will have to be closed for logistical and security reasons from 6am until 2pm on Saturday 29 June 2019. This will affect some businesses and residents in the city, as vehicular access to their home or business may be restricted; this includes parking and deliveries.
Workers are being encouraged to leave their cars at home wherever possible, and to use alternative methods, including park & ride and public transport. Car parks will be available at Culver Street, Salt Lane and Central, but are expected to become full very quickly.
Whilst there will be disruption on the Saturday morning, the BID is strongly encouraging businesses to remain open, or to open from 12noon, to take advantage of the increased footfall in the city.
A full list of road and car park closures, FAQ's and further information can be found on the Wiltshire Council website here.
Tickets for the 3 day event at Hudson'S Field are FREE, but must be pre-booked here.
Others taking part in the parade include: The Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioners, a Warrior armoured vehicle, The Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth, the Kings Royal Hussars, 22 Engineer Regiment Royal Engineers, 1 Military Working Dogs Regiment and the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, the Band of the RAF Regiment and members of the Queen’s Colour Squadron.
