Salisbury Is Open!

13th March 2018

Salisbury’s business leaders, Salisbury BID, have confirmed they are working hard behind the scenes to develop strategic activities for the city following the recent incident.

Chief Executive of Salisbury BID, Robin McGowan says “Along with the other leaders of Salisbury, we would like to reassure businesses we are doing everything we possibly can to support them and the city moving forward.”

As cordons remain within The Maltings area, a number of businesses in the locality have been severely impacted financially by the investigation. Many have been forced to close temporarily, whilst others are struggling to trade with the significant drop in footfall.

Although Wiltshire Police have stressed “the public should not be alarmed, and the public health advice remains the same,” the number of shoppers and visitors in Salisbury are down because of the uncertainty.

Robin McGowan adds, “We are working hard behind the scenes to put together a long-term strategy for the city. This includes talks with local authorities about the different business support options that may be available for Salisbury.”

Salisbury BID are also providing short term support to businesses. They’ve set up the hashtag #SalisburyIsOpen and are actively encouraging visitors into the city through their social media channels.

Their City Rangers have also strategically placed A boards at the entrances of The Maltings with an ‘open for business’ message to encourage visitors into the shops which remain open. They are also out talking with our members and providing reassurance and support wherever possible.

A retail support campaign has also been put together by Salisbury BID, ready for launch when The Maltings fully reopens.

Salisbury BID are encouraging their members to contact the team on 01722 658000 if their business has been affected by this unprecedented incident.
