MRI Onlocation MRI Onlocation operates two footfall counters on behalf of Salisbury BID to count pedestrian numbers in the city centre. The first counter is located on High Street, counting people across the width of the street from Waterstones to New Look. The second counter is located on Queen Street counting people across the width of the street from Nando’s to Moss. The counters use two lines to count pedestrians coming ‘in’ and ‘out’ and combine these two figures to reach a footfall total. The system identifies the mass shape of a person that crosses the count line that is drawn on by the software in the device. AI TST devices use the camera as an eye but does not store or record any images or video. It is not able to identify a person in any way. Beauclair Beauclair Data specialises in sourcing and analysing retail spend data for the benefit of towns and city centres. For 2023, their underlying UK data set included approximately 1.6 billion UK debit card transactions per year with a total value of £47 billion. This represents ~7% of total UK debit card transactions. Each month, Salisbury BID’s retail metrics are produced based on a large and robust sample of in-person UK debit card transactions within Salisbury BID’s specified retail areas. Sophisticated statistical techniques are then used to calculate total UK debit card spending. This calculation takes into account a range of demographic factors such as customer’s home address and affluence. Some data is provided as a normalised value rather than actual value. Normalising the data allows the comparison of retail trends between retail areas that have very different actual values as well as comparison to Beauclair’s ‘GB Benchmark’. Data is normalised by scaling the actual values so that the average monthly value for the year 2022 is equal to 100.
