Horatio’s Garden becomes Salisbury Gift Card’s charity of the year

28th October 2020

Horatio’s Garden has been chosen as the charity of the year for the Salisbury Gift Card.

The Salisbury Gift Card is a pre-loaded card which can be spent in over 130 businesses in the city centre, including shops, restaurants, hotels, salons, attractions and more.

Launched in June 2018, the Salisbury Gift Card is an initiative of Salisbury BID that supports businesses by keeping spend within the city centre. It also increases footfall into the city by bringing people in to spend their gift card.

Since the launch in 2018, over £55,000 worth of Salisbury Gift Cards have been purchased.

Horatio’s Garden is a Salisbury based charity committed to creating and nurturing beautiful gardens in NHS spinal injury centres to support everyone affected by spinal injury. The charity is named after Horatio Chapple, a volunteer who had the original idea of creating a garden away from the hospital wards for patients and their families. As the Salisbury Gift Card’s charity of the year, Horatio’s Garden will receive donations from gift cards being purchased online. People purchasing a Salisbury Gift Card online have the option to add a donation of £1, £2, £5 or £10.

100% of donations made via the Salisbury Gift Card website will be donated to Horatio’s Garden.

Salisbury Gift Cards can be purchased online, with the BID offering free delivery (Royal Mail 1st class). Salisbury Gift Cards can also be purchased directly from the Salisbury Information Centre on Fish Row.

Robin McGowan, Chief Executive of Salisbury BID, said: “Since launch, the Salisbury Gift Card has raised hundreds of pounds for local charities, simply just by having the option to add a donation on the website.

“The Salisbury Gift Card really does make the perfect gift for everyone because it can be spent in over 130 businesses, so there is plenty of choice for spending. It’s also a great way for people to do their bit and help support local businesses, as it ensures money is kept locally, which will help the city recover from the effects of the pandemic.

“Salisbury BID’s main priority is to support our levy payers in the city centre, but it’s also really important we incorporate supporting local charities into our work where possible, so we’re really pleased to have partnered with Horatio’s Garden.”

Kathryn Furnell, Marketing Manager of Horatio’s Garden, said: “It is great to be part of this brilliant business and community initiative in the city – thank you for choosing us. We have grown immeasurably over the last 8 years with five gardens now providing solace to patients in NHS spinal injury centres but our roots are, of course, firmly in Salisbury where it all began and the garden at Salisbury District Hospital will continue to thrive thanks to this extra support”.
