Local organisations take Salisbury 2020 to the market

28th January 2020

Partners took Salisbury to one of the country's premier national group travel trade shows.

On Saturday 25th January, Salisbury Cathedral, key visitor attractions from the city and local organisations took Salisbury 2020: City on the Move to one of the country’s premier national group travel trade shows, Excursions, held in Alexandra Palace.

Salisbury Cathedral along with Arundells, Mompesson House, Salisbury BID, Salisbury Museum, Sarum College, The Rifles Museum and Wiltshire Creative partnered to exhibit at the event in London.

The Cathedral’s stonemasons were also on display, representing the city by demonstrating their heritage skills for visitors and answering customers’ questions.

The Salisbury group decided to club together and attend the show in order to promote Salisbury 2020: City on the Move, a year-long programme of events across the city celebrating the 800th anniversary of Salisbury Cathedral moving from old Sarum to its current site and the development of the city that we know and love today.

The Salisbury group were one of 300 attractions, destination partners and fellow tour operators from across the UK exhibiting at the show, a must-visit annual event that was attended by around 1,200 group organisers, coach and tour operators seeking information and ideas for days out and holiday breaks.

Roz Mitchell, Marketing Manager of Salisbury Cathedral, said: “There was a real buzz at the show, and it was fantastic to partner together as a destination and present a really positive image of the city to the industry. This show gave us the opportunity to talk directly to new contacts as well as existing customers about what experiences the city has to offer. We were really encouraged by the level of interest and enthusiasm we met and look forward welcoming more visitors to the city in future months.”

Kara Roger, Marketing and Communications Manager of Salisbury BID, said: “2020 is going to be a fantastic year in Salisbury and we want visitors from far and wide to know about it and to join in with our celebrations. The BID is delighted to be part of this collaboration promoting the city to group travellers; encouraging them to come and experience the beauty of Salisbury and everything we have to offer. Marketing the city is a priority for the BID’s business members and this was doing exactly that.”
