Wiltshire Council and Salisbury City Council are supporting Britain’s leading televised cycle race series which will take place in Salisbury for the second year.
The elite cycling teams will tackle an iconic 1.2-kilometre circuit, anti-clockwise through the city, making it an excellent spectator event.
The event is free to attend and a programme of family entertainment including live music will be taking place in the city centre during the afternoon.
This professional cycling event is an opportunity to showcase Salisbury and its’ businesses. It's hoped this event will showcase Salisbury as being a vibrant and welcoming place to live, work and visit. The event will be shown on ITV4 in the UK, as well as in over 100 countries worldwide.
With thousands expected to attend the event, we’re advising hospitality businesses to take advantage of the additional footfall by considering staying open later and ensuring you have enough staff and stock to cater for the increased numbers.
Businesses in the city centre may be affected by the event, but here's all the information you need to help you prepare.

The Route The start/finish line, the key focal point on each of the Tour Series’ circuits, will be located on Blue Boar Row, adjacent to the city’s Market Place and Guildhall.
Additionally, this is where the podium and team paddock (comprising buses and cars) will be located.
The cyclists will turn left onto Minster Street in front of the historic Poultry Cross, sweep onto Silver Street and the High Street, then left onto New Canal, right into Catherine Street, left onto Ivy Street and Brown Street before entering Winchester Street, which will take Britain’s best male and female professionals back towards the start/finish line.
Road Closures • From 9am Blue Boar Row, Queen Street and Endless Street (between Blue Boar Row and Chipper Lane) will be closed to facilitate the set-up of the start/finish area. • The remaining roads on the circuit will be closed from 1pm to enable the full race infrastructure to be safely put into place during the afternoon. • The only exception to this will be access and egress for residents and businesses along Brown Street between 1pm and 4pm, and access for vehicles travelling along New Street via Ivy Street will be retained for as long as possible prior to 4pm. This route will then be managed by Road Traffic Marshals with the one-way system on St. John’s Street suspended. • Access only to businesses and residents at the St. Anne’s Street southern end of Brown Street. (i.e. White Hart Hotel), will be retained via Trinity Street throughout the event. • The circuit will be barriered on both sides, but 11 pedestrian crossing points will be set up around the circuit enabling access to and from all areas. • Fisherton Street and Bridge Street will also be closed to through traffic between Sliver Street and Dews Street from 1pm with a diversion via the A36. However, residents and traffic to Central Car Park will still have access. • At 4pm all streets on the race circuit will be fully closed with the pedestrian crossing points accessible. • The closures will remain in place until 11.59pm, or earlier pending it safe to open.
Parking • Parking suspensions for the parking, loading and disabled bays along the circuit will be in force from 6am to 11.59pm on Thursday 23rd May (Blue Boar Row, Minster Street, Silver Street, New Canal, Catherine Street, Ivy Street, Brown Street and Winchester Street). • In addition, parking suspensions will also be required in some of the subsidiary roads leading to/from the circuit and will include: - Milford Street (from Pennyfarthing Street to Brown Street) - Castle Street (opposite Zizzi) - Endless Street (from Blue Boar Row to Chipper Lane) - Queen Street - Fisherton Street • Brown Street Car Parks (east and west) will be closed from 1pm. Alternative parking is available in Culver Street Car Park and Central Car Park. Central Car Park will be free after 1pm on Thursday 23rd May. • Millstream Approach Car Park will be suspended from 6am to accommodate the bus arrangements.
Public Transport • Wiltshire Council are working with Salisbury Reds and Damory Coaches to divert all buses and Park & Ride buses to drop off at Castle Street (near Milford Hall Hotel) and collect passengers from Millstream Approach Coach Park. • Bus stops along Blue Boar Row and Endless Street will be diverted to Castle Street/Millstream Approach at 9am, with all remaining bus stops diverted to Castle Street/Millstream Approach at 12.50pm • Park & Ride buses will continue operating until 10pm approx. • The taxi ranks will be diverted to Castle Street.
Waste Collections Due to the road closures and restricted access, your rubbish may not be able to be collected as usual on Thursday 23rd May.
As a security measure, all waste must be cleared for the race before 6am and waste cannot be put out during the day/evening.
If you are due to have your waste collected on Thursday 23 May, it is essential that you contact your contractor for detailed instructions and advise Lynne Davies at Salisbury City Council on 01722 342860 of any collection issues. Collections will have normal access on Wednesday 22 May and Friday 24 May.
