Salisbury BID City Ranger Rewarded For Community Contribution

Salisbury BID is celebrating the success of their City Ranger, Andy Milton, who has been recognised for going that extra mile for the community.

Andy has been presented with a Wiltshire and Swindon Police Commissioner (PCC) Contribution to the Community Award.

He received the accolade for his role as a Police Cadet Core Leader supporting the Salisbury Cadet Unit. The PCC said Andy’s dedication and commitment is “to be applauded” and that his skills and experience help Cadets learn “respect, to take responsibility for their actions and to always try their best”.

In a personal message written by the outgoing Police and Crime Commissioner, Angus MacPherson, he thanked Andy for “all the great work and voluntary contribution you have made to Wiltshire Police and the communities we serve.”

Training cadets is a role Andy has enjoyed for many years. He said: “I have been assisting in the training of police cadets, now in our fourth year, and it still gives me pleasure to see them develop over the weeks. I never thought I would be recognised in this way as it is a role I really enjoy doing. I feel very humbled to receive the award.”

Robin McGowan, Chief Executive of Salisbury BID said: “We are very lucky to have Andy on our team. As Salisbury BID’s City Ranger he works tirelessly to help city centre businesses and keep Salisbury looking its best but he does so much more. Andy volunteers not just with the police but also with Salisbury CCTV. He really does do a lot of great work for the community and this award recognises that. We are very proud of him.”

Not only does Andy’s work with the police help to keep the communities and businesses safe, so does the time he spends with Salisbury CCTV - which is funded by the BID and Salisbury City Council.

Salisbury CCTV, along with the police, Salisbury BID, businesses and the city council, all work as part of the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) to highlight and address crime affecting city centre businesses.

It is thanks to the hard work of people like Andy, and all those involved in the BCRP, that a record haul of stolen goods was recently recovered.

On March 6th 2021, staff from one city centre shop informed police of a possible shop lifting incident. In a race against time, Andy, in the CCTV office, tracked the alleged offenders guiding police to Brown Street car park where over £3,000 worth of goods was found. It was the highest single amount of stock recovered in one day so far through the BCRP.

Business Manager for Salisbury BID Dan Collins said: “The recovery of this record haul was a huge
success and shows just how well collaborative partnerships can work. We are actively encouraging all businesses in the city centre to join the BCRP so that, together, we can help tackle business crime and keep Salisbury safe.”

Richard Goodman, Salisbury CCTV Manager, said: “The success of BCRP lies in the hands of all those involved in the partnership. We are lucky to have a hard-working team dedicated to reducing business crime in the city – which includes Andy. We are thrilled his commitment to volunteer work has been recognised. He gives his all to every role he takes on and Salisbury is better off because of it.”
