The Salisbury Competitive Brand Positioning Businesses & Stakeholder Event

12th June 2019

Businesses are invited to attend a Business & Stakeholder Event on Friday 5th July to learn about the outcome of Salisbury's Brand Positioning work.

Background

In Autumn 2018 VisitWiltshire, Salisbury BID and Salisbury City Council jointly commissioned a project to develop a Competitive Brand Positioning for Salisbury.

The aim was to create a truthful yet ambitious positioning for Salisbury: to distil what makes this city special, and to be clear on our future ambitions for the kind of place we want Salisbury to be.

We recognise that this clarity about our city’s offer; positioning Salisbury as an attractive, relevant and interesting place to live, to work, to invest and to visit, is essential to enable us to retain existing and compete for new investment, talent and visitors.

Who has been involved

Over 150 people from local business, stakeholder and partner organisations participated in workshops and interviews to share what they perceive to be the city's strengths and challenges, defining what they feel to be the special qualities of the place.

More than 1,000 residents, businesses, stakeholders and visitors added their thoughts through an online survey and we tested visitor perceptions of the city in a series of focus groups.

All of this means that the resulting positioning, developed with the help of specialist place branding agency, Heavenly, reflects the truths about Salisbury as told by those know the city best.

Friday 5th July, 2.00pm - 4.30pm, Salisbury Guildhall

The new Salisbury Brand Positioning is designed to help businesses and organisations across the city. It will help us to tell a consistent story about Salisbury, managing and growing our future reputation.

But it isn't just a communications tool. Our aim for the positioning is that it will serve as inspiration for residents, businesses and public sector bodies as they play their part in the life of the city, developing their strategies and initiatives going forward.

As such it has already received support from key organisations, including Salisbury BID, Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, Salisbury City Council, Salisbury Journal, Salisbury Night-time Economy Purple Flag Group, Swindon and Wiltshire LEP, VisitBritain/VisitEngland, VisitWiltshire, Wiltshire Creative and Wiltshire Council.

At the event we will share the new positioning, how it was developed, and how it will and can be used. There will be an opportunity to discuss and share how you can use the positioning to help your own business or activities, and how we can help you to do so, and to input into the next steps and future development of the positioning.

Please book your place at the event here.
