Salisbury BID’s response to suspension of People Friendly Salisbury scheme

20th November 2020

Wiltshire Council today (Friday 20th November 2020) has announced the People Friendly Salisbury scheme will be suspended indefinitely from the end of this month.

On Monday (16th November 2020), Salisbury BID wrote to Wiltshire Council requesting for the People Friendly Salisbury scheme to be temporarily suspended until the New Year in order to support city centre businesses through the critical Christmas trading period.

The suspension would also allow time for Wiltshire Council to review some of the challenges and concerns raised to date regarding the scheme.

This request from the BID to Wiltshire Council came after 71% of businesses responding to a BID survey asked for a suspension of the People Friendly Salisbury scheme until the New Year.

The BID remained supportive of the principles and ambitions of the scheme, just not the current timing with many pressing challenges facing businesses at this time and we need to do all we can to enable a positive trading environment in the run up to Christmas.

Salisbury BID looks forward to discussions with Wiltshire Council to consider how best to achieve the scheme’s objectives to support city centre businesses.
